It is said that LED technology in laser printers makes them become smaller in the process. I find this hard to believe when I saw the Brother MFC-9325CW because at 50.5 lbs., this printer is not a compact printer. It measures 15.7” in height, 16.9” in weight, and 19.3” in depth. However, the unit is considered as a small-color office MFP. To make it optimized for color printing, there is a USB thumb drive port and Wi-Fi connectivity. PDF and JPEG files can be printed through a font-facing port. For a color printer, it is more practical to utilize cheap toner cartridges.

The MFC-9325CW does not have an automatic duplexer. Nonetheless, manual duplexing can be done through a driver that provides on screen guidance. The paper handling capacity of the printer is quite impressive with 250-sheet input tray. For time-saving scanning, printing, and scanning, there is a 35-page automatic document feeder. It is also interesting to note that there is a one-page manual feed slot. The integration of generic ink toner as replacement for original cartridges is a plus. A number of function buttons can be found on the control panel including the 2-line monochrome display screen. There is a dedicated control for the fax, print, and copy mode. The 4-way controller lets users navigate to the various menus and applications.

Wireless networking is best utilized with the iPrint & Scan App from Brother. Using popular devices having Windows 7, Apple, and Android mobile OS, you undertake scanning and printing tasks. Although the 19 pages per minute rated speed really boil down to 5.7 effective pages per minute, the print speed of MFC-9325CW is satisfactory. When it comes to the much needed output, a number of slight problems popped out. Mild banding and discoloration patterns can be seen on the printed graphics. The same problems exist with photo prints but the quality of text is just right for the printer’s classification. To gain some improvement, it would help to install generic toner refill.

Print speed will not bail out the MFC-9325CW if graphics and photo output does not improve. Using quality consumables will have fascinating effects but there must be improvements in the hardware. Laser-class printers have a reputation for print clarity while not missing vivid details. If streamlining has affected the performance of this LED printer, consumers would never know. If you are looking for a reliable color photo printer, Brother MFC-9325CW might not give you the satisfaction you need.
